It is a community club on the fourth floor of the old Vermont Mill Properties building, with a single indoor wood court. The Town of Bennington lists it on its own Clubs & Organizations page and describes it as the only air-conditioned court in the area — which, if you have ever played an August session in a converted mill, is not a small detail.

What are the outdoor courts in Bennington?

Hotel Vervana — 141 Main St. The newest addition, and the one the directories have been slowest to catch. The hotel says it has four brand-new outdoor asphalt courts, right in the middle of town. Four courts in one place is more than anywhere else in Bennington offers.

Bennington Recreation Center — 655 Gage St. This is where the directories and the town disagree, so read carefully before you load the car.

• National court listings show free outdoor pickleball courts here, with counts ranging from two to four depending on which site you read.
• The Town of Bennington’s own Parks & Recreation page describes the facility as having outdoor tennis courts, a handball court, an indoor pool, a fitness room and locker rooms. It does not mention pickleball.
• It is also not free. The centre is municipally funded but managed by the YMCA under agreement with the town, and a membership or day-use fee applies. Guest passes were listed at $15 for one adult and up to two kids, $20 for one adult and up to four kids, and $10 for a youth-only day pass.

The likeliest explanation is the ordinary one: players use the tennis courts for pickleball, and the directories recorded that as dedicated courts.
