Quick answer: Pickleball in Beverly MA is played on three sets of city courts: Birch Plains on L.P. Henderson Road, which has permanent nets, and Beverly High School and Obear Park, which have painted lines only. At those two, you bring a net or borrow one from Beverly Recreation at Lynch Park. Courts are first come, first served, from 9 a.m. to dusk. The indoor option in town is the YMCA’s Sterling Center on Essex Street.
The 30-second version
- Permanent nets: Birch Plains, 3 L.P. Henderson Road. Show up and play.
- Painted lines, no nets: Beverly High School (100 Sohier Road) and Obear Park (145 Livingstone Avenue).
- Borrow a net: Beverly Recreation lends nets from its Lynch Park office at 55 Ober Street, for up to 48 hours, to renters 18 and older with ID.
- Hours: 9 a.m. to dusk, every day, first come, first served.
- Indoor: the Greater Beverly YMCA’s Lester O. Sterling Center at 254 Essex Street lists pickleball among its features.

Where can you play pickleball in Beverly MA?
You can play at three city sites. Beverly Recreation names all three in the FAQ on BevRec.com, which I read on October 14, 2026.
| Site | Address | Nets |
|---|---|---|
| Birch Plains | 3 L.P. Henderson Road | Permanent |
| Beverly High School | 100 Sohier Road | Bring or borrow one |
| Obear Park | 145 Livingstone Avenue | Bring or borrow one |
Birch Plains is the one to aim for if you just want to show up and play. Beverly Recreation says it has a permanent set of pickleball courts “where you don’t have to bring any nets.” The other two have painted courts that are first come, first served, and you supply the net.
The city does not publish court counts for any of the three, and I am not going to guess. Pickleheads lists four courts at Obear Park and four on Henderson Road, but neither listing cites the city.
What do the national directories get wrong about Beverly?
The directories miss one of the three city sites, leave out the city net loans, and list the wrong phone number for the recreation department.
- Beverly High School is missing. Pickleheads and our own court directory list Obear Park and a courts entry on Henderson Road. Bounce’s “3 locations” for Beverly are Obear Park, listed twice under two names, and the YMCA. None of them lists the high school, which the city names as one of its three sites, and Bounce misses Birch Plains, the only site with permanent nets.
- “Bring your own net” is only half the story. Directories say Obear Park has no nets. That is true, but the city will lend you one, which the listings never mention.
- The phone number. Pickleheads gives (978) 921-6000 for the recreation department. BevRec’s own contact block lists 978-921-6067. Use the city’s number.
Pickleheads and our directory list the Henderson Road courts as “Beverly Pickleball Courts.” The city calls the site Birch Plains, so search for that name on a map.
How do you borrow a pickleball net in Beverly?
Fill out Beverly Recreation’s net rental form and take it to the recreation office at Lynch Park, 55 Ober Street. The form sets out the terms:
- Loan period: 48 hours, or until the first business day of the following week.
- Who can rent: adults 18 and older, with proof of ID.
- Returns: back to the Lynch Park office the next business day unless the form says otherwise.
- Payment: the form has a cash or check line with a blank amount. It does not print a price, so ask when you pick one up.
- No court guarantee: a rented net does not reserve a court, and the city may block some dates.
Damage a net and the city says it will deny you future rentals, so check every piece is in the bag before you sign it back in. If you play the painted courts more than a couple of times a month, a portable net of your own is worth it. Our roundup of the best pickleball nets covers the portable ones.
What are the hours for pickleball in Beverly?
Beverly Recreation lists its pickleball courts as open from 9 a.m. to dusk on weekdays, weekends and holidays. Play is first come, first served, and the FAQ describes no reservation system for casual play.
Dusk arrives early on the North Shore from November on, so a weekday evening game is a summer and early fall thing. Beverly Recreation also points players to the calendar on its site for upcoming pickleball classes. On October 14 I could not find a current class listed, so check back in spring or browse our New England coaching directory.
Is pickleball free in Beverly?
Beverly Recreation’s FAQ lists no fee for playing on its outdoor courts. The only possible cost it mentions is the net rental, and the rental form leaves the amount blank. Directories list the outdoor courts as free.
Indoor play at the YMCA is a different story. That’s a membership facility, covered below.
