Short answer: USA Pickleball has announced five owned-and-operated Golden Ticket tournaments for 2027 — Glendale AZ, Las Vegas NV, Opelika AL, San Diego CA and Colorado Springs CO. Win your division at one and you earn priority registration for the 2027 National Championships. Not one of the five is in the Eastern time zone, so New England players who do not want to fly should be planning the Tiered Point System route instead — and that clock starts September 1.
The 30-second version

If you have ever looked at the USA Pickleball National Championships and thought “that is for other people,” the qualifying schedule that dropped this week is worth ten minutes of your attention. It is also, if you live in New England, a little bit of a gut punch.
What are the 2027 Golden Ticket tournaments?
USA Pickleball announced on August 27 that it is returning to five host markets for its owned-and-operated qualifying events. Here is the full schedule as published:
- January 12–17 — Glendale, Arizona (Center Court Pickleball Club)
- February 23–28 — Las Vegas, Nevada (Sunset Park)
- March 17–21 — Opelika, Alabama (Opelika Pickleball Facility)
- March 31–April 4 — San Diego, California (Barnes Tennis Center)
- May 19–23 — Colorado Springs, Colorado (Peak Pickleball)
Registration for Glendale and Las Vegas opens October 1. Registration details for Opelika, San Diego and Colorado Springs will come later.
What does winning a Golden Ticket actually get you?
Two things, and it is worth separating them:
- Priority registration. Division winners earn a Golden Ticket, which gets them into the front of the line for the 2027 Oceanview USA Pickleball National Championships.
- Points. Everyone who plays — not just the winners — earns Tiered Point System points based on participation and where they finish.
That second one is the part most rec players skim past, and it is the part that matters most if you live in Leominster rather than Las Vegas.
Why is this schedule a problem for New England players?
Look at the five host cities again: Arizona, Nevada, Alabama, California, Colorado. Every one of them sits in the Central, Mountain or Pacific time zone. Not a single 2027 Golden Ticket stop announced so far is in the Eastern time zone, never mind within driving distance of New England.
The nearest stop, Opelika, Alabama, is roughly a thousand miles from Boston. For a 3.5 player in Worcester or Manchester, chasing a Golden Ticket means airfare, a rental car, three or four nights in a hotel and burning vacation days — on top of entry fees, and with no guarantee of a medal at the end of it.
To be fair to USA Pickleball, the organization explicitly says more 2027 Golden Ticket events will be announced in the coming months, so an eastern stop may still appear. But if you are budgeting your season now, you have to plan with the schedule you actually have.
How can a New England player qualify without flying?
This is the useful part. According to USA Pickleball, every sanctioned tournament participates in the Tiered Point System — not just the Golden Ticket events. Points are awarded by the tier of the event, which is set by size, referee scope and registration status. Here is the published grid:

Here is the number that reframes everything. USA Pickleball states that one Golden Ticket tournament automatically awards the required points for Nationals eligibility — and simply registering for one is worth 4,500. That tells you the eligibility bar sits at or below 4,500 points.
Which means a New England player can get there at home. A gold at a Tier 1 event is worth 9,000 on its own. A silver at Tier 1, or a gold at Tier 2, clears it outright. Even registration alone at a couple of well-attended regional events puts you most of the way.
One honest caveat: USA Pickleball’s published grid does not spell out whether registration points and medal points stack or whether the medal figure replaces the registration figure. Do not build your season around a number you calculated yourself — log into the member portal and read your actual balance on the TPS tab.
What should you do before October 1?
- Check your membership tier. Sanctioned play requires a Champion or Challenger membership, not the free Casual tier.
- Mind the window. The 2027 points cycle runs September 1, 2026 to July 31, 2027. USA Pickleball has confirmed the cycle now ends July 31 rather than August 31, and that tournaments played in August 2026 count toward the 2026 cycle, not 2027. If you are entering something Labor Day weekend, check the date carefully.
- Confirm the event is actually sanctioned. A fun local round robin is a great Saturday, but it earns you nothing toward Nationals.

The New England read
I am not going to pretend a five-stop schedule with nothing east of Alabama is good news for us. It is not. But the honest takeaway is not “Nationals is out of reach” — it is that New England players have to take the slower door instead of the express lane.
That door is a season of sanctioned regional events: play more of them, play up where you can, and let the points accumulate from September onward. It is arguably a better use of the same money than one long weekend in Arizona, and you get to sleep in your own bed.
