Where can you play pickleball in Cumberland, RI?

You can play pickleball in Cumberland at two places: the town’s courts at Diamond Hill Park, and the private Fore Court club on Cray Street. One is free and outdoors, and the other is paid and indoors.

  • Diamond Hill Park, 4097 Diamond Hill Road: 2 dedicated outdoor courts with permanent lines and nets, next to the new Lodge at Diamond Hill. Free, first come, first served, daylight only.
  • Fore Court Racquet & Fitness, 44 Cray Street: indoor club with drop-in sessions, DUPR-level leagues, ladders, Drill & Play and beginner clinics.

The park’s parking lot is on Diamond Hill Road, 0.6 miles south of the Route 121 (Wrentham Road) intersection, according to the town’s park guide.

How did Cumberland get its Diamond Hill pickleball courts?

Cumberland built its Diamond Hill pickleball courts as part of the project that replaced the park’s old ski lodge, on the spot where parks and recreation staff used to work.

In December 2024, The Valley Breeze reported that the former house across the parking lot had been demolished and was being converted into pickleball courts. It also reported that the whole project, including the courts, fencing and landscaping, had reached about $7.08 million.

The Lodge at Diamond Hill opened on April 23, 2025, and the courts opened to the public on May 14, 2025, Parks and Recreation Director Mike Crawley told the paper. Days later, a group of Cumberland college students told the paper they used to drive to courts in Franklin, Massachusetts. Now there are courts in town.

Crawley was blunt about the size: “We only have two courts, whereas places like Pawtucket have multiple courts.” Two courts is a small public footprint for a town of Cumberland’s size, so expect a wait on nice weekend mornings.

Do the Diamond Hill pickleball courts have lights?

No. The Diamond Hill pickleball courts have no lights, and lights were not part of the original plan. Crawley told The Valley Breeze in May 2025 that adding them “would have cost another $150,000” and that there were no plans for them yet. Plan on daylight play only, which gets short fast once the clocks change in November.

Towns that added lights later often paid for them with grants. Our guide to pickleball court grants shows how other New England towns did it.

Where can you play indoor pickleball in Cumberland?

The place to play indoor pickleball in Cumberland is Fore Court Racquet & Fitness at 44 Cray Street. It’s a tennis and fitness club that runs a full pickleball program on its indoor courts this fall and into January. Here is the fall 2026 lineup from the club’s pickleball page:

  • Drop-in sessions (started September 8): Tuesdays 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and Saturdays 3 to 4:30 p.m. You have to sign up by phone at 401-333-4480, and the club says Saturdays fill first.
  • Monday leagues: a 6.0 to 7.0 combined-DUPR doubles round robin, and a 2.75 to 3.75 round robin that is sold out with a waitlist. Both run October 5 to January 18.
  • Saturday ladder: 2.75 to 3.75, October 3 to January 16.
  • Ladders: advanced on Tuesday and Friday nights, beginner and intermediate on Sundays at 5 p.m.
  • Drill & Play: 90-minute coached sessions, no more than 8 players, on Monday evenings and Friday and Sunday mornings.
  • Beginner clinics: the club’s intro clinic includes a new paddle.

How much does pickleball in Cumberland cost?

Pickleball in Cumberland is free at the Diamond Hill Park courts. The town lists no fee, and directories list the courts as free. Fore Court is paid. These are the prices on the club’s pickleball page as of October 21, 2026:

Option Price
Diamond Hill Park courts No fee listed
Fore Court beginner intro clinic (includes a new paddle) $99
Fore Court RI Pickleball Tour League (9 weeks) $180
Fore Court Drill & Play season (12 to 13 weeks) $325 members / $351 non-members
Fore Court drop-in Not listed online. Call 401-333-4480

One correction for anyone price-shopping: Pickleheads lists Fore Court as “Free to Play.” The club’s own page puts a price on every pickleball program that shows one. Go by the club, and ask about the drop-in rate when you call.

How many courts does Fore Court have?

Fore Court has eight indoor tennis courts, and it doesn’t publish a separate pickleball court count. Its own site describes the eight courts as “carpeted” on one page and as “hard courts” on its FAQ page. Pickleheads lists 8 indoor courts with tape lines and portable nets. The safe reading is eight tennis courts lined for pickleball, so ask which courts you’ll be on when you book.

Is Cumberland adding more pickleball courts?

Possibly. In May 2025, Crawley told The Valley Breeze there were plans “in the near future” to add tennis courts and pickleball lines at Tucker Field. “You can fit two pickleball courts on one tennis court,” he said. I found no later report or town notice with a date or a budget. Lined tennis courts would add shared space, not dedicated courts, and our Smithfield report shows how court projects in this part of Rhode Island can get complicated. More projects around the state are in our Rhode Island court projects roundup.
