Short answer: the largest pickleball facility in Connecticut is a $15 million, 19-court complex at 100 Centerpoint Drive in Middletown. Ground broke in June 2025 and its operator said it would open in July 2026. As of today there is no public opening date, and listings still describe it as opening soon.

Connecticut has been waiting on this building for three years, and summer has come and gone. So I went looking for what actually happened — and found that even the basic numbers everyone repeats are off.

The 30-second version

  • What: a $15 million indoor complex at 100 Centerpoint Drive, Middletown, on 5.7 acres, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • The court count is misreported. The widely quoted “21 courts” includes two padel courts. The actual pickleball count is 19 — 18 indoor plus one lit outdoor court on a patio.
  • The size has been reported three different ways — 61,650 sq ft, 88,000 sq ft and 100,000-plus sq ft.
  • It would still be a state record. In our directory of 1,140 New England venues, Connecticut’s biggest place to play today has 14 courts.
  • Status: the July 2026 target has passed with no announced opening. We could not confirm a new date.

What was actually approved and built?

It surfaced publicly in September 2023, when Lennie Leibenhaut of Tall Properties LLC took a 20-court plan to Middletown’s Planning and Zoning Commission: 12 indoor courts across 42,200 square feet of enclosed space plus eight more under a covered, open-sided roof — 61,650 square feet in all, with a clubhouse and locker rooms.

By the time crews broke ground in June 2025, the design had grown. Rob Keefrider, president and general manager of Pickleball Park, described 100,000-plus square feet holding 21 courts: 18 indoor pickleball, two indoor padel, and one lit outdoor court on a patio, plus a restaurant, a stadium-court mezzanine and bleacher seating, open around the clock with members scanning in by phone. The city approved a two-year deferred tax assessment, stepping up in years three through five.

Two things are worth pulling out of that, because nobody else has.

  • It is a 19-court pickleball facility, not a 20- or 21-court one. Two of the 21 are padel — a different sport on a different court. Every roundup I found repeats 20 or 21 without the asterisk.
  • The square footage does not reconcile: 61,650 in the zoning application, 100,000-plus from the operator at groundbreaking, 88,000 on a directory listing. The design did grow between 2023 and 2025, but there is no single authoritative number in circulation.

Would this be the largest pickleball facility in Connecticut?

Comfortably. We keep a directory of 1,140 New England venues covering roughly 4,771 courts, and the distribution is far more modest than the headlines suggest:

Venue size NE venues Share
20+ courts 2 0.2%
15–19 courts 11 1%
10–14 courts 45 4%
5–9 courts 284 25%
1–4 courts 777 68%

Connecticut tops out at 14 courts — North Haven Health & Racquet Club and Pickleball America in Stamford — then 13 each at LP Wilson in Windsor and the Redding Community Center. Nineteen would beat the state record by five and rank among the three largest venues anywhere in New England.

That matters more here than it would in Arizona. Indoor capacity is the binding constraint on New England play from November through March, and one building this size shifts winter availability across the whole Hartford–New Haven corridor. See indoor pickleball in Connecticut for today’s options.

So has it opened?

Not that anyone has announced. What we could and could not establish:

  • No opening announcement exists in any outlet we could find. The most recent substantive coverage is still the June 2025 groundbreaking.
  • Directory listings still say “opening soon” rather than hours or rates.
  • The obvious domain is parked, resolving to a placeholder rather than memberships or a schedule.
  • We could not verify a commercial real-estate listing for the property. One appears in search results, but the site blocks automated access, and we do not report what we cannot read.

None of that means the project has failed. Big builds slip, fit-out runs long, and an operator with nothing to sell yet often goes quiet for months. It means only what it says: the stated target passed without a public opening and no new date is on the record. If you are holding a membership deposit, call before you assume anything.

It is a fair question in a year when this business got harder — we have covered clubs selling at falling prices and the 2026 shakeout. A 19-court bet is a big one in that climate. We will update this page when a date is announced; until then, every venue we have verified is in the court directory and the Connecticut hub.

Frequently asked questions

At 100 Centerpoint Drive in Middletown, on a 5.7-acre site roughly midway between Hartford and New Haven. It is a $15 million project operating under the name Pickleball Park.

How many courts will it have?

Nineteen pickleball courts — 18 indoor and one lit outdoor court on a patio. Coverage commonly says 20 or 21 courts, but that total includes two indoor padel courts, which are a different sport.

Is Pickleball Park in Middletown open yet?

There is no announced opening. The operator said in June 2025 that the facility would open in July 2026, but that target has passed with no public announcement and no published hours or membership rates.

Very few. Of roughly 1,140 venues in our directory, only two have 20 or more courts and just 11 more have 15 to 19. More than two-thirds have four courts or fewer.
