How do the MLP playoffs 2026 work?

The Major League Pickleball regular season is down to its final week, which means the MLP playoffs 2026 picture is about to snap into focus. What is at stake at the final regular-season event?
One event is left: the Amway MLP Orlando, running July 30 through Aug. 2 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, with matches played indoors at the State Farm Field House. Twelve teams are on site, and it is the last opportunity of the season to bank standings points.
That matters more than a normal event because of how MLP seeds its bracket. Teams are ranked on standings points per event rather than raw totals, so a strong Orlando showing can vault a team several seeds — and the difference between finishing fourth and fifth is an entire round of playoff pickleball.
How does the MLP playoffs 2026 format work?
MLP simplified things this season. All 20 teams compete at a single level — the old Premier and Challenger split is gone — and every team plays five regular-season events. From there:
- The top 12 teams by standings points qualify and are seeded No. 1 through No. 12.
- Seeds 1–4 receive a first-round bye and enter at the quarterfinals.
- Seeds 5–12 have to play their way through the opening round in Dallas.
Tiebreakers, if teams are level on points per event, run through match win percentage, then games won, then points won.
Where and when are the 2026 playoff events?
- Round 1 — Dallas, Texas, Aug. 6–9, at Picklr Universe. Seeds 5–12 fight for the four remaining quarterfinal spots.

Why should New England players care about the New York finale?
Because it is, realistically, the closest professional pickleball championship most of us will ever be able to drive to.
Wollman Rink sits at the south end of Central Park. From Hartford that is roughly a two-hour drive; from Providence or Boston it is a train ride and a subway stop, not a flight and a hotel week. New England has no MLP franchise — the closest thing is the Brooklyn Pickleball Team — so a title weekend held in an outdoor rink in Central Park at the end of August is about as much of a home game as this region gets.

Who is playing well heading into the postseason?
The top of the table has been fairly stable. Through the mid-season seeding, the New Jersey 5s led the league in standings points per event, with the St. Louis Shock and Los Angeles Mad Drops close behind and Brooklyn and the Columbus Sliders rounding out the top group. New Jersey then went out and won MLP New York for their third straight event title.
Standings move fast, though, and Orlando can reshuffle the middle of the bracket substantially — several teams are still mathematically fighting for the last qualifying spots.
