Where can you play pickleball in Sanford ME?

You can play at three places, all run through Sanford Parks and Recreation: Veterans Memorial Gym and Nasson Gym indoors, and Carpentier Park outdoors. Every detail in this table comes from the city’s pickleball program page and its facility listings, read October 9, 2026.

Venue Courts Season Cost
Veterans Memorial Gym, 678 Main Street, Sanford 6 indoor Oct. 5, 2026 to May 14, 2027 $5 per day, residents and non-residents
Nasson Gym, 457 Main Street, Springvale 4 indoor (local news, 2025) 2026-27 season, 3.5-rated players $5 per day
Carpentier Park, 82 High Street, Sanford 3 outdoor Early May to mid-September Free

Springvale is a village inside the City of Sanford, so all three are one program. We list the venues in our New England court directory: Memorial Gym and Carpentier Park.

How much does it cost to play pickleball in Sanford?

Indoor drop-in play costs $5 per person per day, and outdoor play at Carpentier Park costs nothing. The city charges residents and non-residents the same $5. There is no membership and no online registration.

  • Pay at the table. A container and a sign-in sheet sit just inside the gym. The city calls the sign-in mandatory.
  • Sign the release once a year. Every player has to sign a Parks and Recreation release form each season.
  • No coins. The city asks for bills.
  • Three mornings a week comes to $15. That is our arithmetic from the posted fee.

The fee has gone up a dollar at a time. Sanford Springvale News reported $3 a day in November 2020 and $4 for three hours in September 2022. The City Council raised it to $5 on September 19, 2023. The Parks and Recreation director told a council subcommittee the increase would help cover the cost of running the gym.

When is indoor pickleball at Veterans Memorial Gym?

Indoor drop-in play runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon, according to the gym’s facility calendar. The same calendar shows evening sessions from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays through October and into early November.

  • Check the calendar before you drive. The gym also hosts craft shows, weddings and youth sports, and the city posts hours on the calendar instead of on the program page.
  • Park in the rear and use Door 3. A few steps lead to a foyer at gym level with a changing room on the right.
  • Bring dry shoes. The city does not allow wet shoes in the gym.
  • Beginners are welcome. The city says volunteers will teach you and that limited loaner equipment is available.

One thing on the page does not line up. The registration row lists ages 50 to 100, and the description says “any and all may take advantage of this program.” Call Parks and Recreation at 207-324-9130 if you are under 50 and want to be sure.

Where do 3.5 players go?

Players rated 3.5 play at Nasson Gym, 457 Main Street in Springvale, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. The city says that split continues for the 2026-27 season, and the fee is the same $5, paid at Nasson.

Why do the addresses not match?

The city and the national directories publish different street addresses for both of Sanford’s main venues. I could not settle which map pin is better from my desk, so here are both.

Venue City of Sanford says Bounce directory says
Memorial Gym 678 Main Street, Sanford, ME 04073 655 Main St, Springvale, ME 04083
Carpentier Park 82 High Street, Sanford 14 Grammar Street, Sanford

Our own court listings carried the directory addresses too, and I have flagged them for correction. Go by the city’s addresses. 678 Main Street is also the Parks and Recreation office.

How did Sanford get six indoor courts?

Sanford got them when the school department handed a 1949 gym back to the city. The City Council accepted Veterans Memorial Gymnasium on September 6, 2022. That night the Parks and Recreation director told councilors six pickleball courts had just been striped.

  • 2007: Sanford resident Duke Dugre brought the game home from South Carolina, and early play was at Carpentier Park, the local paper reported.
  • Winter 2021-22: the director estimated 30 to 40 regulars on four courts at Nasson.
  • March 2025: the paper reported more than 400 players.

No new building was needed. Plenty of New England towns have an old school gym, and Sanford shows what one can do. Towns that need money for outdoor courts can start with our guide to pickleball court grants.

Where else can you play near Sanford?

The closest guides we publish cover the York County coast and the New Hampshire seacoast, and Sanford sits inland of both.
