The 30-second version

- Lights: only at Tashua, which is the one park with a 7 to 9 p.m. reservation slot.
- Reservations: free for residents, in 2-hour blocks starting at 9 a.m., booked on the town’s MyRec site.
- Drop-in: free for residents on any unreserved court, with a 90-minute courtesy limit. You give the court up when a permit holder arrives.
- The catch for visitors: park parking needs a sticker. Residents get theirs free, and non-residents pay $112.
- Winter: town indoor sessions at Madison Middle School from mid-December ($21 to $45), or drop-in at Insports Centers ($10).

Where can you play pickleball in Trumbull, CT?
You can play pickleball in Trumbull at three town parks with 20 dedicated outdoor courts between them. The town says Trumbull “has more courts than almost any other town in Connecticut.” I haven’t checked that against every other town, but 20 public courts is a lot for one suburb.
| Park | Address (town listing) | Pickleball courts | Lights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tashua Recreation Area | 40 Tashua Knolls Lane | 8 | Yes |
| Island Brook Park | 600 Garden St. | 6 | No |
| Unity Park | Unity Park Road | 6 | No |
All three are run by Trumbull Parks and Recreation, 5892 Main St., (203) 452-5060. The town also has tennis courts at Nothnagle Park and Trumbull High School, but the town doesn’t list pickleball courts at either one.
Which Trumbull pickleball courts have lights?
Only Tashua. The booking system labels all eight Tashua pickleball courts “(Lights),” and the town’s policy page says the last reservation there is 7 to 9 p.m. At Island Brook and Unity Park, the last reservation block ends at 7 p.m.
That makes Tashua the after-work spot once the clocks change in November. One small quirk: seven of the eight Tashua courts list a 7 to 9 p.m. slot in the booking system, but Court 6’s listing stops at 7 p.m.
How do you reserve a pickleball court in Trumbull?
Trumbull residents reserve courts for free through the town’s MyRec site. The town’s courts page sets out the rules:
- Residents only: “Only residents may request a permit. All permits are free.”
- 2-hour blocks: 9 to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1 to 3, 3 to 5 and 5 to 7, plus 7 to 9 at Tashua.
- One a week: one permit per resident per week, with the week running Sunday to Saturday.
- Booking window: requests open on the Monday one week before the first of the next month.
- Group size: permits are for groups of four to six players.
- No private lessons: the town doesn’t allow private instruction on its courts.
Some times are already blocked for Parks and Recreation programs and the Trumbull Senior Center club. On November 4, for example, Island Brook showed a “TECEC Pickleball” booking every Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. through November 25. Check the calendar before you drive over.
Can you play pickleball in Trumbull without a reservation?
Yes, if you live in Trumbull. The town says any unreserved court “is available for use by residents free of charge on a first come, first served basis.” The town asks drop-in players to keep it to 90 minutes, and you have to leave as soon as a permit holder shows up, “whether or not play is complete.”
At Unity Park, the booking system marks Courts 4, 5 and 6 as available to residents “free of charge on a first come, first served basis,” so those are your best bet for walk-up play there. Courts 1 to 3 take reservations.
Do non-residents pay to play pickleball in Trumbull?
Non-residents can’t reserve, and the town’s walk-up rules are written for residents only. What the town does spell out for visitors is parking. Anyone can walk into a Trumbull park, but parking inside one needs a town permit all year (July 1 to June 30), and the courts page says stickers are required “outside of permitted activities.”
- Residents: up to four stickers are mailed free each June, based on vehicle registration.
- Non-residents: a parking pass costs $112, bought in person at the Parks and Recreation office.
- No sticker: a $25 violation.
So if you live in Fairfield, Shelton or Bridgeport, ask Parks and Recreation at (203) 452-5060 whether walk-up play is open to you before you go, and expect to need the $112 pass to park. If you only come now and then, compare that with the $10 indoor drop-in at Insports Centers, covered below.

What do Trumbull’s own pages disagree on?
The town’s three pages about its courts don’t agree on the reservation rules. That’s this guide’s main finding, and it matters if you’re trying to plan a standing game.
- Season: the Tennis and Pickleball programs page says reservations run May 15 to September 15. The Athletic Fields and Courts page says May to November. The booking system was still taking reservations in November.
- How often: the courts page says one permit per resident per week. The Athletic Fields page says one “Monthly Reservation per month, per resident.”
I’d plan around the courts page, because it’s the most detailed of the three, and use the booking system itself as the final word on dates. Call (203) 452-5060 to confirm a recurring slot before you build a weekly group around it. The booking system also showed Unity Park as a whole facility marked “Closed” on November 4, with most of its ball fields “closed for 2026,” so check before you head there late in the season.
Where can you play pickleball indoors in Trumbull in winter?
Trumbull has two indoor options in winter: the town’s own evening sessions in a school gym, and weekday drop-in at a private sports complex. Both are open play, not lessons.
Town indoor sessions at Madison Middle School. Parks and Recreation runs winter open play in the school gym for ages 16 and up, split by level:
| Session | Dates | Time | Fee (resident / non-resident) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuesday Beginner (2.5 and below) | Dec. 22 to Feb. 2 | 6:30-8 p.m. | $25 / $45 |
| Tuesday Int./Adv. (3.0 and up) | Jan. 5 to Feb. 2 | 8-9:30 p.m. | $25 / $45 |
| Thursday Int./Adv. (3.0 and up) | Dec. 17 to Jan. 28 | 6:30-8 p.m. | $21 / $41 |
| Thursday Beginner (2.5 and below) | Dec. 17 to Jan. 28 | 8-9:30 p.m. | $21 / $41 |
Bring your own paddle and clean court shoes, and use indoor balls only. Sessions don’t run on school cancellations, early dismissals or holidays. Registration wasn’t open yet when I checked. Not sure whether you’re a 2.5 or a 3.0? Our ratings guide explains the levels.
Insports Centers, 29 Trefoil Dr. This private sports complex runs weekday open play on six courts, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to noon. Drop-in is $10, a 10-pack is $75 and a 20-pack is $130. Its site says the 2026-27 season is “returning in November,” and you can call (203) 268-1214 to buy a pack.
