Where can you play pickleball in Williston, VT?

You can play pickleball in Williston at Rossignol Community Park, the town park on Industrial Avenue. It’s the only public court site the town lists for pickleball.

  • Address: 600 Industrial Avenue, Williston, VT 05495, at the corner of North Brownell Road and Industrial Avenue.
  • Courts: 4 pickleball courts and 1 tennis court, according to both the town’s park page and its booking system.
  • Parking: the main lot is off Industrial Avenue. Extra parking and handicap parking are just south of it.
  • Around the courts: a basketball court, a Little League field, two playgrounds (ages 2 to 5 and 5 to 12) and a small pavilion with 3 picnic tables and a charcoal grill. The pavilion can’t be rented.

A 2023 Burlington Free Press guide gave the park’s address as 541 Industrial Ave. The town’s own pages say 600 Industrial Avenue, so that’s the one I’d put in your GPS. You’ll also find the park in our Rossignol Park court listing.

Are the Williston pickleball courts free?

The town doesn’t list a fee for walk-up play at the Williston pickleball courts. The courts are first come, first served, and the fees in the town’s schedule apply to groups that reserve them.

The town’s Facilities Use Policy & Fee Schedule lists tennis, pickleball and volleyball courts at $15 per hour per court for a permit. That copy of the policy is marked as a draft dated December 15, 2022. Call the department before you budget around it.

Any group that plays on a regular schedule needs a permit and a certificate of liability insurance, whether or not it charges players. The town says that applies to “any group of people that wishes to use a Williston Facility regularly.”

What are the court rules at Rossignol Park?

The court rules at Rossignol Park are simple, and they’re posted on signs at the courts. The town’s facility page lists these:

  • The 1-hour rule: play is limited to 1 hour when others are waiting. Your hour starts when you arrive and start playing. If you’re past an hour, finish your game.
  • Share the courts: the town asks players to invite others to join in.
  • Not allowed on the courts: alcohol, glass, food, metal objects, loud music, pets, roller blades, roller skates, skateboards and bikes.
  • Carry in, carry out: take all trash and recycling with you.
  • No paid lessons without a permit: the policy bars fee-based lessons, camps and practices at any town field or court unless the department permits them.

The 1-hour rule is the same courtesy most busy courts run on. Our pickleball etiquette guide covers how paddle stacking and rotation usually work when a crowd shows up.

How do you reserve a pickleball court in Williston?

You reserve a pickleball court in Williston through Williston Recreation & Parks, and nowhere else. The town is blunt about it: “No app, scheduler or other means” counts as a reservation.

Here’s how it works, per the town’s pages:

  • Apply: fill out the department’s Permit Application. Groups also supply a certificate of liability insurance.
  • Pay: the court fee is assessed with the permit.
  • Get priority: a permit holder has priority on the courts for the reserved dates and times.
  • Check the sign: the department posts a sign at the court with the reserved times, so walk-up players know when the courts are taken.

You can see open and booked times on the park’s availability chart, which lists Pickleball Court 1 through 4 separately. The department is at the Annex Building, 7878 Williston Road. Call (802) 876-1160 or email recreation@willistonvt.org, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

When does the Williston pickleball season end?

The Williston pickleball season ends at the end of October. The town says courts and park amenities open by mid-April (weather dependent) and close at the end of October.

The town uses the last week of October to close fields, courts and amenities for the winter. Its Parks & Trails page says all nets on fields and courts are taken down by October 29. So if you’re reading this in late October, your outdoor window in Williston is down to days.

That’s an early close by southern New England standards, but it’s normal for northern Vermont. Our guide to playing pickleball in cold weather covers balls, layers and court conditions for the shoulder season.

Where can you play indoor pickleball near Williston?

The closest indoor pickleball to Williston is in the neighboring towns, because Williston’s town pages don’t list an indoor pickleball site. Essex, South Burlington and Burlington all have indoor options within a short drive.

Directory sites also list Williston Central School at 195 Central School Drive. I couldn’t confirm pickleball there from the school or the town, so check before you go.

Why do search results mix up Williston, VT and Williston, ND?

Search results mix up the two because both towns have a parks department with a pickleball page, and search engines don’t always know which Williston you mean.

The “Williston Parks & Recreation District” is in Williston, North Dakota. Its pickleball club schedule shows up in AI answers and search summaries about Williston, Vermont, as if it were local. It isn’t. Vermont’s department is Williston Recreation & Parks, and its pages live at willistonvt.myrec.com and town.williston.vt.us. If a schedule doesn’t mention Rossignol Park or a 05495 address, assume it’s the wrong state.

What else is nearby for Vermont pickleball players?

Williston sits in the middle of Chittenden County, next to Burlington, South Burlington and Essex, so you have options in every direction. Our Colchester guide covers the next town to the north. The Vermont pickleball hub has every town we’ve covered. If you’re heading east toward the capital, our Montpelier guide picks up there.

You can search every listed court by distance on our New England court map. If you’re shopping for a new paddle over the winter, the Paddle Finder matches one to how you play.
