About the program
URI’s Rhody Pickleball, founded in Fall 2022, became URI’s 21st official club sport in 2024. It practices four times a week on the tennis courts next to Boss Ice Arena and competes under the DUPR rulebook — one of New England’s most active and best-documented college programs.
Club history & highlights
- Founded Fall 2022 by students Bailey Bolton, Ryan Estus and Ashley Thurston (uri.edu)
- Won Rhode Island's first-ever collegiate pickleball match, beating Providence College 3-1 in March 2023 (uri.edu)
- Became URI's 21st official club sport in 2024 (uri.edu)
- Beat University of Hartford 5-3 in its first official Club Sports match (Nov 2024) (web.uri.edu)
