Where can you play pickleball in Nashua for free?
The city keeps several dedicated outdoor courts, all free and first-come:
- Shady Lane — the biggest of the city courts at six dedicated courts, and the one where you’re most likely to find a pickup crowd on a nice evening.
- Fields Grove Park and Greely Park — four courts each, free and public. Greely, up on Concord Street, is a classic city park and a pleasant place to play.
Because these are first-come with no reservations, the usual New England etiquette applies: paddles up on the fence, and you rotate off when a group is waiting. On shared or lined courts, if you’re still sorting out the rules, our kitchen rules and scoring guides will save you an argument.
Where can you play indoor pickleball around Nashua?
This is where southern New Hampshire quietly beats most of the region. Two facilities stand out:
- Dynamite Pickleball — Merrimack (~12 minutes). Eighteen indoor courts — one of the largest dedicated indoor complexes in New England, with open play, leagues and programming. When the weather turns, this is the room that never fills up on you.
- Westwood YMCA — Nashua. Six indoor courts right in the city, with Y programming and open play — the convenient in-town winter option.
- Longfellow Tennis & Swim Club — Nashua. A full racquet-and-swim club with sixteen courts across indoor and outdoor, plus power drills, small-group clinics and junior camps. A membership-style home base if you want structure.
What about the bigger outdoor complexes nearby?
If Shady Lane is packed, point the car north:
- Wasserman Park — Merrimack (~12 minutes). Fourteen free outdoor courts — one of the largest free complexes anywhere in the state. On a summer weekend it’s the region’s outdoor hub.
- Litchfield (~15 minutes). Sawmill Park has six free courts, and the Litchfield Courts add eight more (paid). A quieter alternative on the east side of the river.
- Melendy Park — Hudson, just across the Nashua line, adds a couple more free courts for a low-key game.

When is the best time to play outdoors around Nashua?
- Late April through October is the outdoor window. Nets and lines are up and the city courts are busy from late spring through early fall.
- Mornings and early evenings are the sweet spots in July and August; midday humidity thins the crowd for a reason.
- November through April is indoor season — and the reason a Dynamite or YMCA option is worth pricing out if you plan to play through the cold months.
