Quick answer: Pickleball in Bloomfield, Connecticut, happens at three places: the town’s four lit outdoor courts at Rockwell Park (46 Rockwell Ave), the town’s indoor membership program ($120 a season for residents, October to May), and the private Bloomfield Tennis and Pickleball Club at 45 Douglas Street. A March 2026 town plan would rebuild the Rockwell Park courts with new lights, fencing and seating.
The 30-second version
- Town outdoor courts: 4 fenced courts with flood lights at Rockwell Park, 46 Rockwell Avenue.
- Cheapest winter play: the town’s indoor pickleball membership, $120 resident / $240 non-resident, four sessions a week from October through May.
- Free lessons: a volunteer-run beginner and intermediate drills class, Sundays 9–10 a.m., included with the membership.
- Private club: Bloomfield Tennis and Pickleball Club, 6 lit outdoor courts, a $499 pickleball-only membership and $30-an-hour indoor courts.
- Coming: a Rockwell Park rebuild with new court lighting, fencing, bleachers and a water station, subject to funding.

What are the Rockwell Park pickleball courts like?
The Rockwell Park pickleball courts are four fenced courts at 46 Rockwell Avenue, with a paved lot and five pole-mounted flood lights. That description comes from a March 11, 2026 development narrative the engineering firm Benesch filed with the town’s Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Commission.
- The setting: the courts sit north of Rockwell Avenue, beside Blue Hills Fire District No. 1. Bill Lee Fields, with three baseball fields and two basketball courts, is across the street at 91 Rockwell.
- The lights: the same narrative calls the parking-lot light “in poor condition and outdated,” so plan on the court floods, not the lot, after dark.
- Booking: the town’s myRec system lists “Pickleball Court” and a “Pickleball Parking Lot” as bookable areas under Rockwell Ave/Bill Lee Fields. Call before you schedule a group.
Is Rockwell Park getting new pickleball courts?
Rockwell Park is slated for a rebuild that includes the pickleball courts, but the funding isn’t locked in. The March 2026 narrative splits the project into two phases because of funding.
- Phase 1 at the pickleball parcel: new site and court lighting, fencing, bleacher seating, picnic tables, ADA walks, new parking and a water station between the pickleball and basketball courts with a drinking fountain, bottle filler and dog bowl.
- Timing: Phase 1 is set to coincide with a segment of the East Coast Greenway bike trail along the utility easement behind the courts.
- The catch: the narrative says pending funding “may affect the overall scope” of both phases, and the concessions building and playground are marked “subject to funding.”
I couldn’t find a construction start date. Bloomfield Parks, Recreation & Leisure Services (860-243-2923) is the place to ask. For how towns pay for projects like this, see our pickleball court grants guide, and for other Connecticut projects in the works, our new Connecticut courts roundup.

How much does indoor pickleball in Bloomfield cost?
Indoor pickleball in Bloomfield costs $120 a season for residents and $240 for non-residents through the town’s Pickleball Indoor Membership, which runs from the beginning of October to the end of May. Players must be 18 or older.
- Sunday: 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
- Monday: 6:30–9 p.m.
- Tuesday: 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
- Friday: 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
There’s no play on holidays, building-closure days or special-event days, and the town emails members schedule changes. The membership page doesn’t name the building. The free Sunday drills class (9–10 a.m., October 4, 2026 to May 16, 2027) meets at the Alvin & Beatrice Wood Human Services Center, 330 Park Avenue.
That class is a good deal for newer players. Volunteers David and Cathy teach grip, footwork, forehand and backhand, the volley, serve and return, and the rules. It’s free with the membership, and they suggest you bring a non-perishable item for the Bloomfield Food Bank. There’s no open play during the class.
What does Bloomfield Tennis and Pickleball Club cost?
Bloomfield Tennis and Pickleball Club’s pickleball-only membership costs $499 a year for an individual adult, with no initiation fee. It covers the outdoor pickleball courts at no charge, discounted indoor courts and the pool. Prices below come from the club’s own membership and court-rate pages (court rates effective September 8, 2026).
| Option | Price |
|---|---|
| Pickleball Only membership (individual adult) | $499/yr |
| Pickleball Only (couple / family) | $873 / $998 per yr |
| Pickleball Only (young adult 19–26 / junior) | $374 / $200 per yr |
| Indoor pickleball court fee | $30/hr |
| Outdoor guest fee, non-members | $25 per person |
All memberships are 12-month agreements that renew automatically, and booking runs through CourtReserve. Call the club at 860-242-5536.
How many indoor pickleball courts does the Bloomfield club have?
Bloomfield Tennis and Pickleball Club’s own website gives two different indoor court counts, which is why the directory listings disagree too. Its Pickleball page says 6 dedicated outdoor courts and 6 indoor courts “painted onto the tennis courts.” Its About Us page lists 2 indoor pickleball courts and 6 lit outdoor ones.
The directories split the same way. Pickleheads says 6 indoor and 6 outdoor. CourtSource says 10 courts, 2 indoor and 8 outdoor. Pickleballify says Bloomfield has no indoor courts at all. My read: the 6 outdoor courts are solid in every source, and the indoor count depends on how many tennis courts are set for pickleball that day. Ask when you book.
Directories also put the town’s Rockwell courts at 73 or 74 Rockwell Avenue, and one lists a separate “Bloomfield Early Learning Center” site with 4 courts. The town’s engineering narrative puts the 4 pickleball courts at 46 Rockwell and the Early Learning Center at 73, across the street. The town’s booking system lists only one set of pickleball courts on Rockwell Avenue.
