Quick answer: The new pickleball courts in New Hampshire worth watching this fall are in Goffstown, Gilford, Salem and Dover. Goffstown is paying $177,200 for five outdoor courts at Roy Park, Gilford converted an old ice rink, Salem approved a 12-court club, and Traene says its 10 indoor courts open in Dover this month.

The 30-second version

  • Goffstown: five new courts at Roy Park, about $35,440 each, approved 5-0 on June 22.
  • Gilford: a free rink conversion, with lights now limited to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. after neighbors complained.
  • Dover: Traene lists 10 indoor courts and a November 2026 opening.
  • Salem: a PickleRage club approved on the condition that players use quiet paddles.
  • The pattern: the two public projects leaned on fees, revolving funds, a grant and surplus money.

Where are new pickleball courts in New Hampshire being built?

Four projects stand out, two public and two private. Here’s how they compare on published figures.

Project Courts Published cost Who pays
Goffstown, Roy Park 5 outdoor $177,200 $130,000 impact fees, $47,200 revolving fund
Gilford, Arthur A. Tilton Ice Rink Count not published $360,000 project; $27,500 for pickleball painting and lining $150,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant, $80,000 revolving fund, $130,000 surplus
Salem, 179 Main St. (PickleRage) 6 indoor, 6 outdoor Not published Private

What is Goffstown paying for Roy Park?

Goffstown is paying $177,200 for five courts, which works out to about $35,440 per court by my math. The Select Board voted 5-0 after six bids came in between $177,200 and $307,000.

  • Why the low bid was so low: the parks director told the board that Vermont Recreational Surfacing and Fencing does most of the work with its own crews and subcontracts only the paving.
  • What’s included: the Union Leader lists drainage, asphalt, fencing, nets, striping, seating and accessible paths on an undeveloped field.
  • Timing: work was expected to start by late July, with substantial completion by October. The minutes warn that final coating might wait until spring. I couldn’t find a town opening notice as of November 1.
  • What the town has now: four courts at Barnard Park, made with portable nets and lines on tennis courts, the town administrator told the Union Leader.

For scale, Hingham’s eight-court project in Massachusetts is budgeted at $2.04 million, or about $255,000 per court. It isn’t a clean comparison, because Hingham is building post-tension concrete courts and demolishing an old building first, but the gap shows how much site and scope drive the bill.

Why did Gilford cut its pickleball hours?

Gilford cut its lighting schedule because neighbors complained about noise. On August 12, the selectboard made an 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. schedule permanent, replacing lights that ran until 10 p.m., The Laconia Daily Sun reported.

  • The petition: more than 50 people signed in support of the shorter hours.
  • The counteroffer: a former selectboard chair and a local play organizer both suggested 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • The site: the courts are named for retired town administrator Scott J. Dunn. Dunn said the rink was used “maybe 10 to 20 days a year” before the project.
  • Your cost: the grant requires free public access, with no town sticker needed.

What’s opening indoors in New Hampshire?

The biggest indoor item on this list is Traene. Its website says “Opening November 2026” at 831 Central Avenue in Dover and lists 10 indoor courts with cushioned surfacing.

Plan on paying separately for court time: its Peep membership is $19.99 a month with court rates on top, and its day passes don’t include pickleball. An April radio interview gave the address as 833 Central Avenue, so confirm it before you drive over.

In Salem, the PickleRage approval stands out for its noise terms, including mandatory quiet paddles and a 55-decibel limit. I couldn’t find an opening date. Our indoor New Hampshire guide lists what’s already open.
