The 30-second version

What are the Foote Park pickleball courts like?

Foote Park is Branford’s main outdoor spot, and the town treats pickleball there as official. Its booking system splits the park’s courts into two areas: “Tennis Courts-Clay” and “Tennis/Pickleball Court-Hard.” Pickleball lives on the hard courts.

  • Shared with tennis: Pickleheads lists 8 outdoor hard courts with permanent lines and portable nets, shared with tennis. The town doesn’t publish its own count, so treat 8 as the directory’s number.
  • Restrooms: listed on site by Pickleheads.
  • Other things at the park: basketball, sand volleyball, three softball fields, a pavilion, a walking path and a splash pad, per the town’s facility list. It’s a good park for a family where only some people play.
  • The address problem: Pickleheads and our own court directory both say 12 Melrose Avenue. The town says 12 Melrose Place. Use the town’s version in your GPS.

Is there a second outdoor pickleball court in Branford?

Yes. Veteran’s Memorial Park, at 120 Brushy Plain Road, has a facility area the town calls “Tennis/Pickleball Courts.” It’s the one most visitors miss: it wasn’t in our own court directory until this guide, and Pickleheads lists only Foote Park and a private club for Branford.

  • Reservable: the park’s page on the town’s booking system has a Reserve/Request button, so groups can ask for court time.
  • Court count: not published by the town. Call before you bring a group.
  • Contact: the facility page lists (203) 488-8304.

Can seniors play indoor pickleball in Branford for free?

Yes. Branford’s Senior Center runs indoor pickleball in the Joseph Trapasso Gymnasium at the Trapasso Community House, 46 Church Street, and charges no extra fee beyond a current Senior Center membership. The 2026–27 season runs November 9, 2026, to March 29, 2027.

  • Intermediate Pickleball: Mondays and Thursdays.
  • Seasoned Pickleball: Mondays and Tuesdays.
  • Beginner Lessons with Roger: Fridays, 1:00–2:30 p.m., November 13 to March 26.
  • The rules: ages 60 and up, and you can register for only one level.

For anyone 60 or older, that’s the best deal in town: a heated gym through a Connecticut shoreline winter at $0 a session. Times for the Intermediate and Seasoned groups sit behind the program’s “View Times” link, so check there or call before your first visit.

It opened under a different name. The Hartford Business Journal described a $7 million facility with 10 courts: two outdoor and eight indoor, six of them for pickleball and two for padel. Its July 2025 grand opening featured an exhibition with tennis Hall of Famer Ivan Lendl, five-time pickleball grand slam champion Tyson McGuffin, and pros Ryan Sherry and Tom Lockwood.
