Quick answer: College pickleball in New England gets its biggest weekend of the year on September 26–27, 2026. The National Collegiate Pickleball Association (NCPA) is holding its Massachusetts Regional Championship at RT.12 Pickle, 184 West Boylston Street in West Boylston. 25 universities are registered, and 16 of them are from New England. They’re competing for 12 bids to the NCPA National Championship. Spectators pay $10 a day at the door, and featured courts stream free on YouTube at @ncpapickleball.

The 30-second version

  • Where and when: RT.12 Pickle, West Boylston MA, Saturday and Sunday, September 26–27. The team bracket starts at 11 a.m. Saturday.
  • What’s at stake: 12 bids to Nationals, 4 each in D1, D2 and D3, plus $10,000 in prize money and equipment.
  • Who’s playing: 25 registered schools. 16 are from New England, and every New England state has a school in the field except New Hampshire.
  • It’s the only New England stop. None of the other events on NCPA’s posted 2026–27 calendar are in New England.
  • How to watch: $10 a day at the door, no advance ticket needed, or free on YouTube.

I teach at a community college, and I earned my business degree at UMass Amherst, so this one is personal for me. Route 12, the road that gives RT.12 Pickle its name, runs right through Leominster. On September 26–27 the college game comes to our backyard, and it’s a different sport from Tuesday-morning open play. Teams wear matching school gear, there are student sections, and bids to Nationals get decided one match at a time.

What is the NCPA Massachusetts Regional?

The NCPA calls itself the governing body for college pickleball in the United States. According to its announcement, it was founded in 2023 and now covers 150 universities and more than 5,000 athletes. It is independent. Its own site notes that it is not affiliated with or governed by the NCAA or any university athletic department, so these are club teams, not varsity programs.

The NCPA describes this weekend as official stop No. 2 of 14 on its Collegiate Tour, presented by VAIR, the tour’s title sponsor and rating system. The season ends at the NCPA National Championship at Pickleball Virginia Beach on April 2–4, 2027. There are 192 Nationals bids across the whole season, and 12 of them will be decided in West Boylston.

Which schools are playing college pickleball in New England this weekend?

NCPA’s public tournament page lists 25 registered universities. Sorted by state, the field looks like this:

State Registered schools
Massachusetts (11) Babson, Bentley, Boston College, Boston University, Brandeis, Harvard, MIT, Tufts, UMass Amherst, UMass Lowell, WPI
Rhode Island (2) Providence College, University of Rhode Island
Connecticut (1) UConn
Maine (1) University of Maine
Vermont (1) University of Vermont
New Hampshire (0) None registered
Outside New England (9) Binghamton, Columbia, Rutgers, Syracuse, Delaware, Maryland, UMBC, University of Valley Forge, Villanova

A few things stand out. Worcester Polytechnic Institute is the hometown team, just down Route 12 in Worcester. New Hampshire has no school registered, so neither UNH nor Dartmouth is on the list. And the field is more than a New England meet: nine schools are coming from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

How good are the New England teams?

On the NCPA’s current university rankings, the answer is that they’re still catching up. Harvard is the only New England school in the national top 50, at No. 46. The top of the list is Florida Atlantic, Utah Tech and UC San Diego, and none of the top ten is from the Northeast. That’s the real opportunity this weekend. A New England team doesn’t have to fly across the country to earn a bid; the bids are being handed out just outside Worcester.

How can you watch the NCPA Massachusetts Regional?

  • In person: RT.12 Pickle, 184 West Boylston Street, West Boylston. Spectator entry is $10 per day, walk up, no advance ticket needed. Each registered university also gets 10 free student spectator passes, arranged through its club president.
  • Online: every featured court streams free on YouTube at @ncpapickleball, and NCPA says matches also air on PickleTV.
  • Schedule: NCPA’s bracket listing has the college team bracket at 11 a.m. Saturday, mixed doubles at 5 p.m. Saturday, and men’s and women’s doubles at 8 a.m. Sunday, then singles at noon Sunday. Times can move, so check NCPA’s tour page on the day.

The team bracket pays $1,500 for first and $1,000 for second. Teams that get knocked out can re-register for individual brackets from 3.0 to 5.0+ that haven’t started yet, so a lot of players will be on court both days.

What does this mean for pickleball in New England?

We have written a lot about how New England gets skipped by the pro tours. This is the college version of the same pattern, with one difference: the region did get a stop, and 16 of the region’s schools showed up for it. If you’ve got a kid heading to college next year and they play, that’s a list worth checking.
